@Czerniakowska Not quite. The Foxtrot pre-dates the Charleston and was an attempt to fit the 3/4 waltz into 4/4 music. The foxtrot, or rather it's vernacular forms the single, double and triple shag, gave birth to swing dances like the balboa and collegiate shag. The quickstep is the English response to the Charleston. It is essentially the foxtrot with some Charleston inspired moves, danced to fast jazz. The lindy hop is a descendent of the Charleston, rather than a dance inspired by it.

Charleston into Lindy Hop (or how one unsightly dance was transformed into another)? My understanding has always been that the Charleston divided into two modern ballroom numbers - the Quickstep and the Slow Foxtrot. I have no knowledge of the origins of the Lindy Hop and really wouldn't wish to.

Yeah man, it sucks that they had to remove the audio... If you open up "Love Me Or Leave Me" by Sammy Davis Jr. in another window you have to play that one first and then start this video about 1 - 1.5 seconds later and they should line up perfectly. These guys outlined the music with their moves really well. The jumps at 0:46 should be in sync with the trumpet stabs in the song. Awesome song, awesome dance!

As a young hispanic street dancer, i've noticed that the status quo amongst street dancers younger than 30-35 is to confine their dance to the studio and the stage. Kids these days are effectively removing the street out of street dance, and it should be remembered that, at one point, these jazz dancers were street dancers. i learn all that i can from these dancers to ground my dance in history and reality. My first rule is to never forget to enjoy dance for the joy of it.

I agree with scoutz0rs, Lindy isnt just for short people. I'm nearly two meters and I absolutely love it. It's rather obvious that these guys don't have that much experience in Lindy, they could use some more bounce and jazz up their footwork. But they get away with it because they are clearly great dancers.

Where are people getting the idea that Lindy Hop is only for short people? That's entirely untrue. Authentic Lindy hoppers (not ballroom dancers doing Lindy) come in all sizes. Just look at ULHS videos. And hell, Frankie Manning wasn't short.

actually the song Sing Sing sing is originally by Louie Prima 1936 and has been tributed by many with the most popular version being Benny Goodman, 1937 featuring the rockin Gene Krupa on drums. Give credit where it is due, or don't give it at all. :-)

Well, one of those dancers is 90 and STILL DOING IT AND TEACHING! Many of them made it to 95! So when they were in their 50s and 60s, they were like teenagers, dancing their butts off. I should know, I learned from them, as did many of us who are now 50 Plus! Swing dancing keeps you young! Of course, we cut down on the aerials a bit... LOL!

Her shoes can be ugly, but they're the best one to dance, because they minimize the impact when she makes aerials and this kind of stuff. Make aerials with high heels is very dangerous, because you can break your ankle, knee, hurt your leg, your back... And in my opinion, lindy hop with high heels is horrible! You don't have bounce, you get tired fast, and you can't make some movements that you could do in a low heel shoe. Confort and danceability are everything

Although I totally agree with you, I gotta say that nowadays people tend to lindy in sueded sneakers. For instance, I prefer doing lindyhop in my little white canvas sneakers to my balboa heels. That being said, those are the ugliest ones she probably could have picked.

Good dancing But to those defending Carla's choice of footwear, please check out right here on Youtube "Swing Dancing from the movie Swing Fever" Jeanne Veloz outdances Carla by a mile IN HEELS and looks amazing doing it. If Kevin and Carla are professionals it then the audience is entitled to a complete aesthetic experience. Those shoes she's wearing may make it easier for her, but they are unaesthetic and ugly to the point of detracting from the performance.

I think the guy looks unclean, though this is part the dancing stye. It would nice to see more control in what they do, I mean, the guy more effort in being more balanced, engage his upper body muscles, control his feet, control the movement accross the floor and perhaps spot in the swingouts. The girl is a bit better, but the overall look is unclean by performance standards.

Yes, that is the same riff, but the song you mentioned actually sampled it from another song called "Better Days" by Jimi Polo and Fatboy Slim sampled it from that version as did Congress. To be completely technical, Nick and Ria (the guy in a red shirt and his follow in a red skirt) did better than the couple you are mentioning (Max and Alice). But Max is just awesome. Frida, the first girl, is always amazing at her ability to follow. I'm not a fan of Joe or Dan and their follows in this video. Joe knows a lot of good moves, but he was very sloppy here. I think he has improved dramatically in another one I've seen. I completely agree with the the placement in this contest.

Hey 1poopeaterm, First on your line you put a knot that slides up and down your line...that is what you set the depth with. Then after the knot you put a tiny bead and then the float. You can buy the knots and beads at usually any bait store. I fish like this all the time and its killer. Hope this helps.
